Churros with hot chocolate are the quintessential combination in the cold months. Its consumption began at the beginning of the 19th century and from then on it has been coveted by children and adults of all times. At first it was a recipe without many ingredients, other than the basic ones such as flour, water, salt and sugar. The evolution of times has allowed the incorporation of alternatives such as chocolate, among others.
Its presentation has been the same, in the shape of an elongated stick with refined sugar sprinkled abundantly on top, its evolution has not prevented the forms of presentation from varying according to the style of each churrero master, coming to present it in any way, even has come to present churros filled with chocolate, white cream or ariquipe, also accompanied by various flavors of syrups and showers of candy on top.
The secret in making churros is to mix it with very hot water, preferably that has boiled, so that the yeast burns, providing a crunchy and unique texture to everyone's palate. We leave the rest of the secrets to you along with the recipe.
RECIPE TO MAKE HOMEMADE CHURROS
Ingredients:
- 150 g strong flour
- 250ml water
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 level teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- Oil for frying
- Pastry bag
- Star shaped nozzle
- baking paper
- Sugar for sprinkling (optional)
4. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rest for 10 minutes.
5. Fill a pastry bag with the dough.
6. Heat plenty of oil (the churros have to float in it).
7. Form the churros on baking paper.
8. Cut the baking paper around the churros.
9. Fry the churros one at a time with the baking paper directly. Once the churro begins to fry, the paper can be removed very easily.
10. When the churros are golden, place them on absorbent paper and sprinkle them with sugar.
Eat them still hot with a good hot chocolate.
HOW TO PREPARE CHOCOLATE IN A CUP
Ingredients (1 small cup):
- 200 ml milk
- 1 teaspoon pure cocoa
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- Sugar or sweetener to taste
2. Dilute the starch in the rest of the milk.
3. When the milk with cocoa boils, add the dissolved starch and stir constantly until the desired thickness is obtained.
4. Serve immediately.
