5 ways to incorporate turmeric into your diet

Turmeric is a spice that should not be missing in any pantry. This product is obtained by crushing the dry rhizome of the turmeric longa plant. It is mustard yellow in color, difficult to go unnoticed on the plate since it is used to give color to foods. It is a spice considered to have a dual purpose in cooking. On the one hand, it has the qualities to season and give color to different dishes and on the other, it has intense medicinal value. Below we will show you some ways how to incorporate it.   1. Turmeric to complement some dishes Once the food is cooked, you can add a touch of turmeric spread over the food, especially those with curry. Both spices combine very well on the palate. Keep in mind that turmeric should not be exposed to intense heat as it can generate unfavorable reactions in foods, completely altering its flavor. 2. Turmeric in breakfast In morning breakfasts with fried or scrambled eggs, turmeric is generally incorporated into the coconut oil in which they are fried. Its function is to provide a pleasant yellow color to our eyes and an unmatched flavor, also incorporating a touch of pepper and salt. The toasted bread here should not be missing as a companion. 3. Turmeric in grains, soups and stews In the central meal of the day, turmeric also plays an important role in the preparation of lentils, soups or chickpeas. In this case it is used to season when they are almost ready. The best way to do it is in a separate pan where you place a splash of coconut oil, heat it and add a little turmeric and incorporate it into the grains. In stews and casseroles they are added when the heat has already been turned off, making sure to cover the preparation and let it rest for a reasonable amount of time without letting it cool. 4. Turmeric in vegetables The preparation of vegetables should always be in our food. Turmeric plays a determining role in its different presentations, whether roasted or baked. In the oven, the most common vegetables to season are potatoes, cauliflower and asparagus. Roasted, they include corn on the cob, potatoes or eggplants, among many others. 5. Turmeric in drinks and juices Including turmeric in different drinks is almost always done with the intention of benefiting from all its properties. You can use it as an infusion with hot water or milk. Or just one more ingredient in your favorite smoothies
